FIELD COURSE

"Natural and Cultural History of the PNW"
Honors 220
Natural and Cultural History of the PNW field -based summer course

In this course, students develop an understanding of key ecological and social processes affecting Pacific Northwest ecosystems. In addition, students gain a basic understanding of economically and ecologically important species and ecosystems found in the region. Class time includes occasional short lectures from the instructor or guests, discussion of case studies and time is mainly spent in local and two weekend-long field trips (Friday Harbor and Olympic Peninsula). During field trips students  conduct natural history observations, learn how to gather data and are trained in basic fieldwork skills, plus they have time to work of natural history journals.

This is a summer version of BIS 141 and it is field-based. The class is caped at 12 students which allows great instructor-student interactions.
