BES 316 Ecological methods
This is a hands-on course in which students learn by applying the knowledge they gained during the BES 312 course. In BES 316 students learn the methods available to conducted ecological research. We work as a big group applying field methods and collecting data and we work in the analysis of those. I provide guidance and feedback for their weekly reports, which served as a way to evaluate their progress in the class. Students' engagement is high and we visits several local sites were we can measure diversity, assess habitat characteristics, habitat structure and even collect data on behavioral observations. I have benefited from some local connections to incorporate those n my teaching, such as contribute with data collection for a raptor ecology project in the city of Seattle. . This course also serves as a great opportunity to integrate my campus research into the teaching and to collaborate with some of my BIS 498 Undergraduate research students.
